Interesting Coffee/Tea Facts

According to various Harvard researches, we may have caffeine and stay healthy. In fact, there may be added benefits to consuming caffeine. Present in two of our favorite beverages, coffee and tea, caffeine can have a combination of beneficial and adverse effects on our health.

Researchers from the universities of Navarre in Spain, Catania in Italy, and a separate report published by the Harvard School of Public Health, determined that habitually drinking coffee, overtime, dramatically reduces one’s risk of developing hypertension, certain kinds of cancer, liver disease and even depression; additionally, it can potentially protect us from a plethora of metabolic risk factors, including strokes and heart disease – being a rich source of antioxidants, primarily polyphenols. Unexpectedly, regular coffee drinkers that were asked to decrease their intake by one cup a day, were reported to have increased their risk of developing blood sugar disorder by 17%. Any more than four cups a day is deemed to surge your increased risk for developing high blood pressure.

More intimately, the Harvard paper passed a proposition that drinking between one and three cups of coffee a day, over the course of four years, may decrease one’s risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 11%. This is good news for those of us who need our cup of java to start our day! Conversely, for those with diabetes, caffeine interacts with the insulin levels in the body by fluctuating up and down.

The Harvard researchers derived their result by analyzing previously conducted studies, which cumulatively contained data from 1,109, 272 participants. A little over 45,000 individuals belonging to this pool had been diagnosed with diabetes before they were recruited for the respective report…

Tea, on the other hand, supplies a sufficient boost of vitality, with considerably less amounts of caffeine. Additionally, tea concurrently may mitigate symptoms of anxiety via its high content of antioxidants, essentially L-theanine, due to its anti-stress effects. L-theanine also maintains alertness and sharpness whilst also giving us a boost in energy. The polyphenols in black tea help in maintaining a healthy gut. Drinking tea on a regular basis may help reduce blood pressure, reduce the risk of stroke, lower blood sugar levels, and reduce certain cancers. Moreover, tea reduces inflammation as well as boosts oral health. Most of the overlapping attributes shared between the two beverages are concentrated in the black tea.
